Department 56 Snow Village

Department 56 Snow Village

The Original Snow Village series from Department 56 is modeled after the 1950's suburban communities that started to pop up everywhere across the US after World War 2.  For many Department 56 collectors this is a period of time they lived through, so having a chance to relive those memories through the Deparment 56 Snow Village series is something special.

The Department 56 Snow Village spotlights all the features of those 1950's suburban communities.  There are models of traditional American homes along with a collection of village pieces you would find in a 1950's central business district.  These business districts are where the whole town would come together to shop, eat and participate in community events.

While Department 56 is always retiring and introducing new buildings each year, there is always a great collection of buildings available every year to pick from.  The yearly collection of Department 56 Snow Village pieces usually includes a church, various retail shops, service businesses (such as accountants, lawyers, etc) and restaurants.

Quite possibly the most popular piece of the Department 56 Snow Village series is Shelly's Diner.  Shelly's Diner features a traditional diner look that epitomizes the 1950's US middle class suburban community.  Shelly's Diner was introduced in 1999 and is still in the Department 56 Snow Village collection for 2010. If you collect the Original Snow Village or are just starting, Shelly's Diner is a must have.

Department 56 has a lot of great villages.  One of the easiest villages to relate to is the Original Snow Village, so it is no wonder that Department 56's Snow Village has been so popular.
