The Miele Onyx vacuum is part of Miele's new S6 series vacuums that are replacing the S4 line going into 2012. The S6 line features an improved, quieter motor operation.
All Miele S6 Vacuums come equipped with 1,200 watt vortex motors, completely sealed systems (super quiet operation, better than the S4 line), and onboard 6-stage suction control to adjust to your cleaning needs. While these core features stay the same on all the S6 models, certain features change from one S6 series vacuum to another.
The Miele Onyx features an air clean filter, which can be upgraded to an AH-50 HEPA filter at anytime for enhanced dust and allergen control. It also features two different floor heads; a SBB300-3 Parquet Twister Floor Brush for hardwood floors and a SEB205-3 Turbo Comfort Turbo Brush (air driven head) for vacuuming on low-pile carpets.

Why should I choose the Miele Onyx over another Miele model?
The Miele Onyx is ideal for anyone who has only hard surfaces and low-pile carpeting to vacuum. The SEB205-3 turbo head may be able to handle a medium pile area rug or two, but for the most part I would only recommend this model for users with low-pile carpeting and hard floor surfaces. The SEB205-3 turbo head will work very well on low pile carpet floors and the SBB300-3 Parquet Twister Floor Tool is ideal for hardwood floors, since it features soft bristle hairs on the bottom of the head to prevent scratching on any hard surface. In addition, the Parquet Twister has up to a 180 degree twistable neck to make for easy cleaning around and under all furniture.
The Miele Onyx comes standard with an Air Clean Air Filter. The air filtration achieved with this filter is suitable for anyone without sensitivity to dust and other indoor allergens. If you suffer from dust or any other indoor air born allergen, I would suggest upgrading this models air filter to a HEPA filter (AH-50 HEPA filter), or look to purchase a different Miele Vacuum cleaner that comes equipped with a HEPA filter.
