Detailed Description
The Miele Red Velvet vacuum is part of Miele's new S6 series vacuums, which features an improved, quieter motor operation over their S4 series predecessors.
All Miele S6 Vacuums come equipped with 1,200 watt vortex motors, completely sealed systems (super quiet operation, better than the S4 line), and onboard 6-stage suction control to adjust to your cleaning needs. While these core features stay the same on all the S6 models, certain features change from one S6 series vacuum to another.
The Miele Red Velvet features a SBD285-3 Combination Carpet/Smooth Floor Tool that is suitable for vacuuming all hard surfaces and low pile carpeting. Simply adjust the floor tool with the foot pedal switch to go from hard surface to low pile carpet vacuuming. The Miele Red Velvet comes with a standard air clean filter, which can be upgraded to an AH-50 HEPA filter at anytime for enhanced dust and allergen control.

Why should I choose the Miele Red Velvet over another Miele model?
Frankly, the Miele Red Velvet is a special vacuum cleaner for the mere fact that it has a red velvet suede finish to it. It's not ideal for everyone, but for that individual trying to make a statement, or for a business such as a funeral home it could be a nice fit. If the finish is right for you then you can start looking at the vacuums capabilities.
The Miele Red Velvet comes equipped with a multi-function floor tool(SBD285-3) that allows users to vacuum all smooth surfaces and low pile carpeting with a simple switch of a lever on the floor tool. When flipped to the smooth floor tool setting scratch resistant floor bristles pop out of the bottom of the floor tool to prevent scratching when vacuuming. When flipped to the carpet setting the bristle get pulled inside the brush head to allow for the brush head to roll over carpet with minimal resistance.
The combination floor tool makes it more convenient than some of Miele's other vacuum cleaners that have separate smooth surface and carpeted floor tools, however the tool is somewhat limited in it's abilities. It's only good for smooth surfaces and low pile carpeting. Miele vacuums with separate hard surface and carpeted floor tools have a SBB300-3 smooth floor surface tool that is lighter weight and slightly more flexible than the SBD285-3. The carpet tool available on Miele vacuums that feature separate carpet brush heads all have a beater brush. Some only have a SEB205-3 air driven turbo head which is only suitable for low pile carpet sweeping, while others have an electronically driven head suitable for low, medium and high pile carpeted surfaces.
The Miele Red Velvet comes standard with an Air Clean Air Filter. The air filtration achieved with this filter is suitable for anyone without sensitivity to dust and other indoor allergens. If you suffer from dust or any other indoor air born allergen, I would suggest upgrading this models air filter to a HEPA filter (AH-50 HEPA filter), or look to purchase a different Miele Vacuum cleaner that comes equipped with a HEPA filter.
The bottom line is the Red Velvet is a niche vacuum in Miele's line of vacuum cleaners. You have to be ok with the suede finish. Beyond that, if you desire everything on board, no switching of floor tools, only have smooth and low pile carpets, and are ok with standard air filtration, then it is a good option for you to consider.
